Patient Rights

The purpose of this program is to provide nurses with an understanding of how to identify and safeguard the rights of all patients. It identifies seven specific rights that are protected by federal and state law, lists five issues that invoke the right to be informed, describes three situations in which the patient has the right to exercise self-determination, and looks at three situations where it is important to protect the patient's personal privacy. The program lists three forms of patient abuse and discusses situations in which careless words would violate a patient's right to dignity.
