Find a Database by Subject

 
Search on your subject to find databases that would be appropriate. Ex. Political Science.

How to access databases from off-campus?

  1. Visit the LRC-IC homepage: http://www.rccc.edu/lrc
  2. You may access our databases by performing a search from "All-In-One Search" and/or utilizing a "Research Guide" for your topic.
  3. Click on the link to the appropriate database or perform the appropriate search in the wanted search box.
  4. If you are off-campus, you will automatically be redirected to the EZ Proxy login page and the following screen will appear. If you are on-campus this page will not appear.

  1. You will be prompted to enter your RCCC Account login credentials.
  2. Students- Your username and password are the same credentials that you use to log in to Blackboard. Username Format: {Up to 10 characters of last name}{period}{first initial}{period}{last 5 digits of Student ID}(Example: doe.j.55555).
  3. Faculty/Staff-Your username and password are the same credentials that you use to log in to your workstation. Username Format: {first name}.{last name}(Example: john.doe).
  4. Click Log In and you will be able to access RCCC's databases.

Federated Searching vs. Single Databases

Federated searching performs simple searching in multiple databases at one time. For advanced searching, search within each specific database.

Proquest Advanced Search

This tutorial on advanced searching within individual databases is a great start to understanding advanced search techinques.  Many of RCCC's databases are purchased through Proquest.  This interface is the most popular interface among the databases owned by RCCC.

What is Boolean Searching?

Boolean searches allow you to combine words and phrases using Boolean operators (AND, OR, and NOT) to limit, widen, or define your search.
