When citing ChatGPT or any AI libguide in your work, you can follow the general guidelines for citing online resources. Here is an outline for citing ChatGPT and an AI libguide:
Here is an example of a citation for ChatGPT:
OpenAI. ChatGPT. OpenAI, [URL], Accessed on June 6, 2023.
For an AI libguide, the citation would follow a similar format, with the specific title of the libguide and the corresponding URL.
Remember to use the appropriate citation style recommended by your institution or publication, such as APA, MLA, or Chicago.
On April 7, 2023, APA Style released informal guidance in their APA Style Blog on how to cite, quote, and use ChatGPT and other generative AI tools.
How to Cite AI Generated Content - APA Style Recommendations | |
---|---|
Example 1, Quoting or reproducing the text created by Generative AI tools in your paperWhen queried with, “Is the left brain right brain divide real or a metaphor?” the ChatGPT-generated resultant text indicated that although the two brain hemispheres are somewhat specialized, “the notation that people can be characterized as ‘left-brained’ or ‘right-brained’ is considered to be an oversimplification and a popular myth” (OpenAI, 2023). Example 2, Quoting or reproducing the text created by Generative AI tools in your paperWhen given a follow-up query of “What is a more accurate representation?” the ChatGPT-generated text indicated that “different brain regions work together to support various cognitive processes” and “the functional specialization of different regions can change in response to experience and environmental factors” (OpenAI, 2023; see Appendix A for the full transcript).
