What is the Library Assessment Plan?

The Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Library's Assessment Plan is a comprehensive document outlining the purpose, framework, resources, timeline, and outcome of assessments of the library's resources and services. The assessments are aligned with the mission and goals of both the library and the college.  

Purpose

Below are common purposes of assessment. 

• Improving a program or project
• Measuring a program's effectiveness or impact
• Measuring student engagement
• Measuring affective traits of students or staff (such as feelings of being welcomed, job satisfaction, etc.)
• Evaluating student or staff learning
• Evaluating user friendliness or usability of a service, resource, etc. 
• Conducting a needs assessment to identify gaps and areas of improvement
• Reporting/communicating library impact to stakeholders

Scope

Through continuous assessment, the scope of the Rowan-Cabarrus Library's assessment plan is to monitor and improve services, manage library collections, identify trends in user's needs and respond appropriately, and make a positive impact on student success in the areas of Access Services, Collection Management, Outreach and Engagement, Resources and Services, Space, and Staff. 

Library Mission

The Library at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College supports the mission of the college by being an active and vibrant partner in the learning experience; preparing information-literate citizens to compete and succeed in a 21st century workplace.

Library Goals and Objectives

Knowledge Sharing – To preserve and provide access to knowledge created in and by the college.

1. The Library will preserve College history by organizing, maintaining, and increasing access to the College archives.
2. The Library will increase the college community’s knowledge and interaction with archive resources.

Accessible and Inclusive Learning Spaces – To provide accessible and inclusive learning spaces.

1. The Library will provide accessible and inclusive virtual spaces that are responsive and adaptive to the learner’s evolving needs.
2. The Library will provide accessible and inclusive physical spaces that are responsive and adaptive to the learner’s evolving needs.

Academic Support – To support a culture of learning by providing appropriate resources and services.

1. The Library will provide resources and services to support at-risk and marginalized students.
2. The Library will provide resources and services to support on-site and off-site students.

Awareness and Advocacy – To create opportunities to collaborate, inform, and support Library stakeholders.

1. The Library will create opportunities to collaborate, inform, and support administration, faculty, staff, and students.
2. The Library will create opportunities to collaborate, inform, and support local, state, and national communities.
